"To put it simply, my passion is nature and wildlife."
Inspired by Nature,
Moved to Share
A native of northern New Mexico, I grew up exploring the spectacular wilderness in southwestern Colorado and was fortunate to visit the Northern Rockies several times while growing up. I began photography as a means to capture and share the awesome vistas I experienced. I haven’t received any formal photographic training and remain hesitant to take too much credit for my images….after all, nature did all the hard work.
I was artistically inspired by a childhood mentor who was the most amazing artist I’ve ever known. She took me under her wing and taught me about art. Whether it was walking through the galleries of Santa Fe, reading books on the great Renaissance artists, or viewing one of her works, I believe my real inspiration and training for photographic art began with my relationship with her. For this, I am forever grateful.
Authentic Moments
Captured, Not Created
I spend countless hours in nature looking for inspiration and beauty. Once I find that moment, I carefully consider the composition that will convey the feeling and experience I felt at the time.
All of my images present scenes as they actually occurred in nature. I limit my enhancements to those capabilities common in film darkrooms. Objects aren’t added or removed. The sky is the actual sky at the time of capture. Nature is amazingly beautiful and my goal is to share that genuine beauty with you.
I am a photographic artist, not a digital artist. I don't spend countless hours in front of a computer combining, adjusting and manipulating images. My time is spent where I love to be - in nature.
Wild
Capturing gallery-worthy images of wild animals is hard. Really hard. It requires a deep understanding of animals, their habitats, behaviors and an immense amount of time studying and observing wildlife. Getting an animal in the right pose, in the right setting, with the right light rarely happens, but is so rewarding when it does! By the way, it’s hard to photograph animals in places where they’re hunted, so I spend time in areas where wildlife is allowed to be wild without the threat of being killed by humans, especially with ‘fair chase’ becoming so rare these days.

I don’t hire captive animals to pose in my images. Wild animals are meant to be wild, not used as props. My images are the result of years of learning, watching and taking pictures. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Committed to Preservation
Remember that just about everything we do impacts the health and viability of the natural world and its inhabitants. We do have some great success stories (bald eagles and humpback whales to name a few). Our US National Parks are great, but they only protect about 3.5% of our total US land. We have reduced the wild bison population from nearly 60 million animals down to a few thousand (and we’re still shooting them each winter as they wander outside of Yellowstone).
Preserving wilderness and allowing it to thrive requires work. Please be conscious of your impact on the wild world and actively work to help preserve and expand our wild places. I will continue to support organizations such as Earth Justice and Wild Earth Guardians and do what I can to help our wilderness grow and thrive.
