Teddy
Katmai National Park, Alaska
Brown bears of the Alaska coast are typically brown as you might expect. Large males are sometimes darker shades of chocolate and younger females can be closer to a blonde color. This spring cub (meaning it was born in the den the previous spring) was part of a litter of three which were roaming the salmon-rich river with their mother. Besides being adorably cute, the near whiteness of the cub was striking. I don't know if this bear will maintain this light color throughout its life, but it was a treat to watch this beautiful animal enjoying an autumn day.
